Precept Increase for 2022 - 2023

At the Full Council meeting on the 10th of January 2022, the council set its precept for 2022 – 2023 at £143,000.

The council decided to increase this year's precept by a small amount, which will mean a Band-D household precept of £42.95, compared with £37.96 for a Band D in 2021- 2022.

The council tax statements display tax increases as percentages which tend to distort increases in precept levels, so the 13.2% increase equals £4.99 per band D household per year.
Over the past several years Haxby Town Council has tried to keep precept increases close to the inflation rate. In real terms this has led to a decrease in our ability to fund projects and maintenance in the village. For the 2022/23 council tax year our budget was set according to the projected costs of key projects that we need to complete.

To put this in perspective the council tax burden for a band D property in Haxby is £1,895.40 while a band D property in our neighbouring village of Wigginton is set at £1,898.80. For further information on precept charges for councils in the York area, please click on the link below.

The Town Council is aware that increases in Council Tax are not always welcome but hopes that residents are supportive of the work that the council does and recognise that the charge remains less than £1 a week for the average household.
