Exciting Progress at Ethel Ward Playing Fields

Haxby Town Council is delighted to share an update on the transformation of the former netball courts at Ethel Ward Playing Fields.

Work will begin on 10th August on the next stage of the project, creating a modern, accessible and sustainable multi-sport facility that will provide opportunities for netball, football and wider community sport and activity.

Already completed:

✓ New perimeter fencing
✓ Upgraded lighting to meet FA standards
✓ A new accessible entrance from the designated disabled parking bays

Next steps – work starting 10th August will include:

✓ Complete court resurfacing and new line markings creating a multi-sport surface with for both netball and football
✓ More opportunities for sport and increased participation

For many years, the courts have played an important role in our local sporting community, but the ageing surface and facilities meant significant investment was needed. This transformation will give the courts a new lease of life, creating a safer, more inclusive and accessible space that can be enjoyed by more people for many years to come.

The court transformation is just the first stage of our wider ambition for Ethel Ward Playing Fields – creating a safe, inclusive and welcoming community destination where sport, wellbeing, recreation, nature and community life can thrive together.

We look forward to sharing more updates as the transformation progresses and, most importantly, seeing the new courts being enjoyed by our community! 🌟
