Quality Council Status
The quality scheme was launched in 2003, and to attain quality status the Council had to demonstrate to a panel established by the National Association of Local Councils that it met a number of criteria associated with quality status.These criteria are listed under the following headings, all of which must be satisfied to achieve accreditation.

- Electoral Mandate - the number of Council seats filled
- Qualifications of the Clerk - directly related to local council administration
- Council Meetings - number and conduct, publication of agendas and minutes
- Effective Communication - newsletters, website etc
- Annual Report - availability and timeliness
- Accountability - audit and preparation of accounts
- Ethical Framework - adoption of code of conduct
Haxby Town Council was accredited in 2006 and will be eligible to seek re-accreditation in 2010.
