MANCROFT OPEN SPACE   (2010-03-04)

MANCROFT OPEN SPACE

In the September 2009 Issue of the Haxby Town Crier the Town Council outlined the results of the public consultation exercise. As a result, the Town Council agreed to pursue the Playbuilder grant from City of York Council.

Mancroft open space was chosen by residents to be split into two areas.  One half of the space was to increase play opportunities for young children and the other was to remain for exercising dogs.  The only change since September 2009 has been to swap over the dog exercising area with the children's play area.  This was done to address hygiene issues and offer parents a more secure play space. Access to the dog exercise area will be via the entry points from Mancroft, Ploughlands and Ploughman's Lane/Eastfield Avenue.

The Mancroft Working Group have had proposals accepted to implement stage one, which includes erecting a 1.2m high bow top fence across the width of Mancroft in order to separate the two areas to ensure that dogs do not foul the children's play area. There will be two gates in the fence to allow access to the play area from the southern half of the field. It should be noted that in the interests of health and hygiene dogs will not be permitted to access the dog exercise area via the children's play area.

H S Jackson & Son (Fencing) Ltd will start work erecting the fence during the week commencing 22 March 2010. During the works if you have any concerns or questions please contact the Town Council Office on 750378.

Children from Headlands Primary School were consulted as part of the research stage in designing the play equipment for Mancroft and the next process will include sending out an invitation to tender to play equipment companies to spend the £47,000 grant (Central Government funded) in response to what the children have said they would like.
